Dogo argentine was created by Doc. Antonio Nores Martinez, who wanted a specimen of dogs able to hunt Pumas and Pecaries, but, the most important thing, thad had no rivals in the fights among its similars.
He didn't tell anything about weight and eight, he only spoke about a middle eight dog that was able to overwhelm his lighter similar because of his strength and able to defeat the eaviers because of the higher quality during the fight.
To have an armonious Dogo.
No part of its body had to prevail over the others in order to create a perfect auritma
Than I set some selection parameters:
• MALES
- tallness: 59-64 cm
- weight: 35-40 kilo
• FEMALES
- tallness: 57-62 cm
- weight: 28-33 kilo
These parameters, there are various tests and various work test sto be able to appraise them.
For too many years Dogo has been choosen exclusively for dog exhibitions, according to an absurd standard completely different from its creator's intention.
The result is what we can sorrowfully see: big useless dogs that have nothing more to share with the original Dogo.
I dare anyone to bring me a 50Kg (or 60 cm at withers) specimen able to pass serious job tests. Unfortunately, as A.N.M. said: all that cannot evolve regresses!
I realize that it is a real miracle if Dogo Argentine has been able to preserve a dim light of funzionality, having been and still being into the hands of merchants who differ greatly fom A.N.M. I think that breeders, selectioning the specimen, would follow creator's principles, for our dogs must, first of all, be Dogos inside.
What I have just said could be considered heresies by those breeders who only use their Dogos for dogs exhibitions, even sometime covering them with talcum powder, with greasy finger-tips, to make the poor animal stiff and make it look less flabby.
My only aim is to give you the emotion of having a real Dogo argentine on your side and to feel proud of it.
Time will prove I am right.
• HEAD
Seeing it previously, it must be round, with good masseters and temporals, the relation with the snout 1:1, or a little below, the snout must be without lips, better if lightly pointed to facilitate the penetration.
• NECK
Strong and elastic, about middle length, it is better to avoid too voluminous necks, beautiful too see but too static and unable of rapid movements.
• APPIOMBI
Well straight, the fore legs diameter must be twice the hind legs one.
• EYES
Dark coloured, almond shaped eyes with a tail no more long than the upper end of the hock, give us a good per-cent of terrier blood.
• BACK
One must give a primary importance to this part, because this is the real motor of our dogs.
Strong, muscolar, preferably short hock, but, most important, a correct angle shot (lots of subjects called champions or exteemed excellent have almost ridiculous backs).
• LOIN
Covered with a strong musculature, solid to the touch. This quality will give a good protection against impacts and will allow sudden moving during the fight.
• TORAX
Much containing, well developed also more than the elbow. Looking it in front, it must be not too large, but in armony with the whole body.
